Senior Taylor Peterson hasn’t stopped hitting since returning from the Verona softball team’s spring break trip to Florida.

Peterson has a six-game hitting streak and has been tearing up opposing pitchers in the leadoff spot. Peterson is hitting .714 in the past six games (15-for-21) and has scored 18 runs. She is putting up video-game numbers with consistency. Peterson has had multi-hit games in eight of the Wildcats’ 10 games this season. Peterson has multi-hits in six straight games that coincides with Verona’s six-game winning streak.

Verona (6-3, 5-0 Big Eight) kept its winning streak alive with a Big Eight doubleheader sweep of Madison West on Friday, April 19, at Verona Area High School. The Wildcats beat the Regents 11-1 in five innings in the first game. In the second game of the twinbill, Verona rolled by Madison West 18-0 in five innings.

Verona was leading Janesville Craig 9-0 in a conference game on Thursday, April 18, at Riverside Park, when the game was suspended. The remainder of the game will pick up in the fourth inning on May 14, when Craig plays at Verona.

The Wildcats’ home game against Sun Prairie East was postponed on Monday, April 22. Verona will play a doubleheader at Sun Prairie East on Thursday, May 9.

Verona 11, Madison West 1 (5 inn.)

Peterson went 3-for-3 with three runs scored to power the Wildcats to a victory over the Regents.

The Wildcats jumped on the Regents with a five-run first. Verona junior Mallorie Kreuser had the big hit with a two-run single in the inning.

The Wildcats had 10 hits. Verona junior Sierra Ejercito went 3-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI.

Kreuser pitched a complete game and gave up one unearned run on four hits and struck out nine.

Verona 18, Madison West 0 (5 inn.)

Freshman Addison Quackenboss tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out nine in the second game of the twinbill.

The Wildcats pounded out 16 hits. Peterson finished 3-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored and three RBIs. Ejercito went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Kreuser went 3-for-4 with a team-high five RBIs. Senior Harriet Salas also drove in two runs.
