The Madison Art Cart will make an appearance at Nordic Ridge Park in Stoughton from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 13.
The program, which started more than 40 years ago, allows children ages 3 and up to explore hands-on art projects outdoors at no cost at local parks, beaches and playgrounds.
The themes of the projects are inspired by artwork on display at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, which partners with Madison School and Community Recreation (MSCR) to run the program.
In one such project, inspired by artist Jeffrey Gibson, students will make a keepsake container inspired by a parfleche, a decorated object made by Native Americans of the Great Plains to hold and transport belongings. Instructors are available to provide children with guidance.
This year, the Art Cart will make its way through 50 locations in 12 Dane County communities.
