The Verona softball team extended its winning streak to four games with a 7-0 road win over Monona Grove on Monday, April 15, at Taylor Prairie Elementary School.

The Wildcats (4-3, 3-0 Big Eight) were coming off a 19-1 win over Madison East in three innings on Friday, April 12, at Madison College.

Verona 7, Monona Grove 0

Verona senior Taylor Peterson went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs to lead Verona to a nonconference win over Monona Grove.

Peterson is 7-for-7 hitting in her past two games. Junior Mallorie Kreuser went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. The Wildcats stole seven bases. Junior Sierra Ejercito had three stolen bases and Peterson had two steals.

Kreuser pitched a complete game five-hit shutout and struck out 15.

Verona 19, Madison East 1 (3 inn.)

Peterson went 4-for-4 with one RBI to power the Wildcats to a 19-1 win over Madison East.

Verona exploded for 19 runs in the top of the first. Verona batted around the order and the Purgolders walked in four runs. Verona’s Harriet Salas had a two-run single. Catcher Emma VanDeventer followed with a two-run single to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead. Peterson delivered an RBI single and Kreuser had an RBI double. Freshman Emma Parker had an RBI single and Kreuser later in the inning came through with an RBI single. Morgan Kirwan also delivered a two-run single.

The Wildcats pounded out 14 hits in three innings. Kreuser finished 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. VanDeventer went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Ejercito scored three runs and stole two bases. Kirwan scored two runs and knocked in two runs.

Kreuser pitched two shutout innings to get the win. She gave up one hit, struck out four and walked one. Addison Quackenboss pitched one inning in relief and gave up one run on two hits. She struck out one and walked one.
