Will Tennison spent four years accomplishing a laundry list of feats no one in the history of the Verona boys tennis program has come close to replicating.
Tennison earned the top seed at the Division 1 state tournament for the second straight year. He finished third in the singles tournament May 30 to June 1 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, capping his illustrious career with a 26-1 record in his final season.
In a match that looked more like a championship than a semifinal, Tennison lost 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to Green Bay Southwest senior Johnny Zakowski. He then defeated Sun Prairie senior Aidan Schutter 7-6 (3), 2-6, 7-5 in the third-place match.
Tennison, now a freshman at Marquette University, is the only boy in VAHS history to make it to the state quarterfinals, which he accomplished all four years. He finished sixth as a freshman, fourth as a sophomore and withdrew in the quarterfinals due to injury in 2018.
