Tucker Teskey went 3-for-4 to lead Verona to a 9-5 win over Pine Bluff/Mount Horeb on the road Sunday, July 7.
The Cavaliers (11-0) lead Pine Bluff/Mount Horeb by 3 1/2 games in the Western Section North Division with five games left. Verona, the defending Home Talent League champion, is one win away from clinching the No. 1 seed for the Western Section playoffs.
“If we get the No. 1 seed, we will have home field in the playoffs,” Verona player-manager David Lund said. “We really want to get that home field. That is something we are shooting for.”

Jason Erxleben struck out five and allowed three earned runs in seven innings to lead the Cavaliers to victory.
Verona broke the game open with a five-run second inning. John Moynihan had an RBI double in the fifth, and Luake Yapp had an RBI single to spark the Cavaliers.
Lund, who went 2-for-4, said the Cavaliers were putting good swings on the ball and being patient. Moynihan also went 2-for-4.
Verona 28, Ridgeway 2
Jacob Slonim went 2-for-3 with six RBIs to power the Cavaliers to a five-inning win last Thursday.
Verona pounded out 16 hits. Nick Cheaney went 2-for-3 with five RBIs, and Teskey was 2-for-5 with five RBIs. Justin Scanlon went 3-for-5. Mike Jordahl and Rob Capener also finished with multi-hit games, each going 2-for-3.
The Cavaliers erupted for nine runs in the second and 10 in the third.
Verona’s Kyle Nelson pitched four innings and gave up one earned run on two hits. He struck out eight and walked one. Brad Laufenberg pitched one inning in relief and gave up one run on three hits. He struck out two and walked one.
