The Verona girls soccer team’s season came to an end on Tuesday, May 28, at Oconomowoc in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal.
The lone goal for the Wildcats in the 3-1 loss came from senior midfielder Julia Gilboy on an assist from sophomore midfielder Morgan Grignon in the 73rd minute.
Oconomowoc led Verona 2-0 at the half.
“We gave it our all,” coach Jen Faulkner said. “We just came up a little bit short.”
Freshman goalkeeper Elsa Queoff had 10 saves.
Faulkner said Queoff played a great game in net.
“Elsa is a great goalie,” Faulkner said. “She grew a lot this year. She started to command the box. This was her best game this year.”
The Wildcats finished the season 5-8-1.
“The scoreboard didn’t tell the whole story,” Faulkner said. “They are a great group of girls. If they work hard, I think we can come back next year and be competitive in the conference.”
