Verona girls lacrosse

The Verona girls lacrosse team is awaiting the announcement of its playoff opponent and game date.

The Verona girls lacrosse team went 2-1 in the final week of the regular season.

The Wildcats won two road games over Sun Prairie and Watertown and lost an unbeaten showdown to Waunakee on Friday, May 17.

Verona 12, Sun Prairie 10

Verona took an early lead with 10 goals in the first half and that carried the Wildcats to a 12-10 road win over Sun Prairie on Tuesday, May 14.

The defense held on in the second half allowing four goals and Verona added two more. Paige Zahler led with five goals.

Joie Horsfall and Kiersten Pelletier added two goals each. Khalid, McElroy, and Schmidt each added one. The ground ball leader was Khalid with four and McElroy and Pelletier each had three.

Maija McElroy had five draw controls. Senior goalie Sofia Jeddeloh has 13 saves.

Verona 18, Watertown 7

The Wildcats dominated the game at Watertown on Wednesday, May 15, rolling to an 18-7 win.

Paige Zahler led with five goals and Mackenzie Schmidt had four goals.

Freshman Julia Fechner and Khalid each added two, while junior Israel Anderson had one. Verona defenders junior Gillian Cartwright and sophomore Greta Boehm each scored on a free position shot. Jeddeloh also had 12 saves.

Waunakee 9, Verona 4

Verona traveled to Waunakee for an unbeaten showdown on Friday and the Wildcats lost 9-4.

Waunakee took an early lead, but Zahler scored two goals right before half. Schmidt added a goal. In the second half, Kiersten Pelletier added a goal.

Pelletier had four ground balls, followed by Zahler and Cartwright with three a piece.

Jeddeloh had 21 saves in the loss. The playoff dates and opponent are still to be announced.
