The Verona baseball team had six players named Big Eight All-Conference Tuesday, May 28.
Senior pitcher Reagan Klawiter and sophomore shortstop Ryan Taylor were named first-team all-conference and senior catcher and designated hitter Brooks Brazeau was voted to the second team. Sophomore pitcher Jacob Kisting, sophomore second baseman James Rae and senior outfielder Tyler McWilliams garnered honorable mention honors.
Klawiter, an Illinois State recruit, posted a 4-4 record with a 1.90 ERA. He struck out 72 and walked 18. Taylor was the leading hitter for the Wildcats in batting average (.468), RBIs (28), doubles (11) and triples (5).
Brazeau (.355) had 15 RBIs and eight doubles.
Kisting led the team in wins, going 6-2 with a 2.61 ERA. He struck out 51 and walked 21. He gave the Wildcats a solid one-two punch on the mound. Verona finished the season 15-12 and won six straight games to make a run to the WIAA Division 1 sectional final, where he pitched and the Wildcats lost to Sun Prairie 10-0, one win from state.
It was the sixth straight sectional appearance for Verona. Rae hit .370 with a home run, 10 RBIs and a team-high 24 runs scored. McWilliams hit .265 with 12 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
