SOY - Jackson Acker

Verona’s Jackson Acker finished second in the discus with a throw of 171 feet, 5 inches at the Division 1 state meet on Friday, May 31. He then verbally committed to the University of Wisconsin for football ahead of his junior year.

Verona’s Jackson Acker enjoyed a sophomore year to remember.

He closed out the year by winning a silver medal in the discus at the Division 1 state track & field meet, then committed to play football at Wisconsin.

Acker unleashed a throw of 171 feet, 5 inches on his final attempt to shoot from fifth to the state runner-up on May 31 in La Crosse.

Acker beat Luke Sullivan’s sophomore discus record by 3 feet, 5 inches with a throw of 173-8 at the Spartan Invitational on May 3, then crushed his own record with a toss of 191-8 at the Big Eight Conference Meet.

Acker received a scholarship offer to continue his football career for the Badgers on June 9. He found out the news in a meeting with UW coach Paul Chryst in his office along with his mother, who is a nurse at UW Hospital and Clinics and attended UW-Madison herself.
