With New Century Charter School moving to a different location in 2020, a fundraiser on May 19 will support plans for a new library.
The school’s third annual pancake breakfast fundraiser, which will run from 8-11:30 p.m. at Badger Prairie Needs Network, 1200 E. Verona Ave., will be used to purchase materials for a new library to be located at a current Verona Area High School K-wing. The breakfast is $7 per person, and the menu will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, applesauce, fruit, juice and coffee.
Angie Carlson, who is organizing the pancake fundraiser, wrote the Press in an email that the new library is necessary, since New Century School currently shares many spaces with Sugar Creek Elementary, including a library.
“We have to build the new school library from scratch, including the purchase of industrial library shelving, tables, chairs, desks, basic library materials and, of course, books,” Carlson wrote.
While plans for the new library will be discussed at the breakfast, attendees can also “sponsor” books by choosing a title from a “book board” and paying for it at the event, where the book will later be purchased for the new library.
Guests are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items to BPNN and the fundraiser will also feature a balloon artist and a face painter from Paint My Face.
Locally produced maple syrup from Bauer Family Maples will be sold at the event and will be served as part of the breakfast. If weather permits, attendees can eat outside on the lawn.
