A horse died Friday night after it was struck by two cars in the Town of Verona.

A caller reported a crash on County Hwy. PB near Wesner Lane around 9:45 p.m. Friday night, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s office. An investigation later found a horse had gotten loose from a farm off of PB and was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado and a Toyota Prius while in the middle of the road.

The horse died of injuries sustained by the crashes.

Three other animals that had also escaped from the farm – a donkey and two horses – were returned safely to owners.

Two occupants in the Toyota Prius were transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. No one in the Silverado was injured.

Verona police, along with the fire department, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies and Fitch-Rona EMS responded to the incident.
