Expect to see a few more people in Verona next week starting Sunday.
Epic Systems will be holding its annual Users Group Meeting from Aug. 26-30, bringing 8,000 people from around the world whose companies use Epic Systems software to a conference with forums, advisory councils and an “All-Camp Jamboree” dinner.
International visitors from countries like Australia, Belgium, Finland and Saudi Arabia, along with nine others, are expected to be in attendance at the conference, Epic spokesperson Meghan Roh said in an email to the Press.
More traffic in Verona can be expected as well – shuttles from regional hotels throughout Dane County will be looping back to hotels every half-hour in the late afternoon hours during the conference, and from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30.
The Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates there will be $6.1 million in direct spending in the Madison Metropolitan area as a result of the conference, Verona Area Chamber of Commerce tourism coordinator JoEllen Graber wrote in an email to the Press. Attendees are staying at hotels around Dane County and lodging as far away as the Wisconsin Dells, Roh said.
The conference officially starts on Monday, Aug. 27, but the night prior, Epic is holding a “Taste of Epic” event where attendees will be able to sample some of the company’s “tastiest eats and treats,” according to the company’s UGM website. They’ll also be hosting a campfire that night, which fits in well with this year’s theme of “The Great Outdoors,” which was decided after gathering input from staff, Roh said.
The company is adding “focused forums” on Thursday morning, where attendees can attend a session that focuses on a singular topic in the healthcare industry, like opioid management or patient experiences, Roh said.
