The Oregon/Stoughton girls lacrosse co-op beat the fourth-seeded Wauwatosa Blazers on Saturday, June 1, and Watertown on Tuesday, June 4, to reach the state championship game.
Oregon will face the winner between the Westside co-op and DeForest, who played on Wednesday, June 5, after the Courier Hub’s deadline. The state championship game is 6 p.m. Friday at Carroll University in Waukesha.
Oregon 12, Watertown 10
Emma Wollangk scored five goals Monday to lead the host Panthers to a 12-10 win over Watertown. Lauren Rieder had a pair of goals to lead the Panthers. Daryn O’Malley, Autumn Copus, Ellie Tomczyk and Shannon Gibbons scored once for Oregon.
The Panthers had to rally for a comeback victory against Wauwatosa.
Oregon 11, Wauwatosa 8
Oregon trailed 6-3 at halftime and went on an eight-goal scoring spree in the second half to fizzle out the Blazers’ fire. Oregon senior captains Autumn Copus and Lauryn Rieder led the victory with four goals and two assists.
Juniors Payton Urfer, Emma Wollangk and sophomore Izzy Newton found the net five more times. Freshman Shannon Gibbons contributed two goals and freshman Daryn O’Malley helped out with an assist.
Junior defenders Aspen Alexander and Fiona Prechel also played key roles in the victory, forcing five turnovers and collecting four ground balls. Junior goalie Lexi Schumann made eight saves.
