To prevent the spread of COVID-19 the Stoughton Public Library closed starting at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 15 and will remain closed until at least April 6.
Director Jim Ramsey said it was an agonizing decision, making Thursday a sleepless night. Library staff want to be open for people needing the Internet or those who need a distraction with a book or a movie.
“I feel it will end up being the right one – and we all have to do our part to slow the spread,” Ramsey said.
When staff made the decision on Saturday, March 14, Ramsey said few other libraries had announced complete closure.
As of Monday, most libraries in the South Central Library System, which covers Dane County and beyond, were closed, with seven library or library services remaining open with service reductions.
