While Thursday, June 8, marks the end of the 2016-17 school year for students, it will also serve as a finale of sorts for 10 Oregon School District staff members who will be retiring later in the month.

From teachers to psychologists to a head custodian, they average more than 20 years’ service to the district, and they will be honored Thursday, June 1 with a special reception at the new OSD Innovation Center at Oregon High School.

District superintendent Brian Busler, who is wrapping up his 11th year in the district, said retirement time is always “bittersweet” for his colleagues.

“(They) have made a life of serving young people, helping them grow and develop as students,” he wrote in an email to the Observer. “This is a special time for our retirees as we honor them as individuals and for their positive impact in the Oregon School District.”
