In a joint effort between the Oregon Rotary Club and school district, the two entities hosted Bike Rodeos for second- through fourth-grade students at Brooklyn, Prairie View and Netherwood Knoll Elementary Schools within the last month.

The last Bike Rodeo took place on Wednesday, May 15, at NKE.

While some students brought their own bikes, others were on hand for them to borrow. The events were made possible through rotary funding and donations from several local businesses.

Wendell Matzke, rotary club Bike Rodeo chair, said each rodeo consisted of helmet checks, bike inspections and obstacle courses. The students learned how to properly maneuver their bikes and wear safety gear. They were also scored for how well they performed at each station.

Members of the Oregon Police Department were present at the rodeos to help with helmet checks.
