Police arrested an 18-year-old Madison man for allegedly committing two robberies at the Oregon Kwik Trip this month.
Willie Champ was arrested during a traffic stop after the second incident at 916 Janesville St., which occurred around 2:35 a.m. Friday, according to an Oregon Police Department news release. A Fitchburg police officer pulled the man’s vehicle over on U.S. Hwy. 14 based on the description of a “small white sedan” leaving the scene of the crime, the release states.
“Cash and a suspected firearm were visible from the outside of the vehicle,” the release states.
Champ allegedly displayed a firearm during the robbery, and an airsoft gun “similar to the suspected firearm used in both armed robberies” and cash were recovered during a search of the vehicle.
The May 7 robbery was around 5 a.m.
Champ had not been charged as of Tuesday morning, according to online court records.
