The village is planning to reconstruct the intersection of Janesville Street and Park Street this fall and hired Town and Country Engineering at its Feb. 18 board meeting to design, engineer and oversee the project.
The project will involve a site survey, an intersection evaluation study, a public information meeting, design, bidding and construction management and oversight, according to bid documents.
The firm suggested two “adders,” which the board approved: incorporating County Hwy. MM in the traffic study and extending the water main work to replace 80 to 100 feet of old pipe and connect the new main to another newer pipe. That brought the total contract value to $61,200.
Public works director Jeff Rau said his “gut feeling” is the intersection will get traffic signals, as opposed to stop signs or a roundabout. But state law requires roundabouts to be considered.
Rau mentioned a priority of his in the design work is maintaining pedestrian safety, as foot traffic may increase with the hotel and proposed expansion east of U.S. Hwy. 14.
