After more than 40 years of serving the Oregon community, Maria’s Pizza is set to close its doors at the end of the month.

A Maria’s Pizza Facebook post dated June 14 states the business is closing Sunday, June 30, “with a heavy heart.”

“We are so grateful for the love and support over the past 40+ years,” the post states. “Thank you everyone!!!”

As of October 2018, John Indelicato, who opened the 134 S. Main St. restaurant in 1978, told the Observer he decided to put it up for sale to retire.

Back then, he listed the building, property and parking lot next to the location for $945,000.

Indelicato told the Observer last fall he wanted to retire because of an illness that gave him no choice but to close Maria’s for two months last year, which helped him decide it was time to slow down. He said he wanted “to enjoy the time I have left.”

He had been operating the business with his wife and three daughters.
